My grandfather was August Gast, brother to Henry. G-Grandfather is Albert Gast. Sophia Schodosky is the G-Grandmother. All from Germany. I think Klein Belitz, a small community still there built around a Lutheran church in the German state of Mecklenberg-Schwerin, a former duchy, north of Berlin and just below Denmark was home town. Albert appears to have illegally immigrated around 1849 or so, thru Baltimore, to Chicago. He was married only here in U.S. The "lakes region" of Germany. Since this is a day-laborer family, they moved around and were hired out by their land owner, so several children born in different small villages. There was a second wave of Gast immigrants from same town in 1870's, an entire family with adult son and his children, who immigrated to Will County, Illinois. There are two Albert Gast naturalization papers held in Illinois, both of these Gast immigrants have Albert (one is Albrecht) in their several very German names. Altho Vern Petersen says we are not related, he has the correct previous history. Sound about right too you? Mike
