Never mind the exit polls showing that more than 6 in 10 voters Tuesday felt GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin isn't qualified to take over the top job. Her future White House job prospects are likely doomed by what I'm calling the Gassaway Factor.
Henry Gassaway Davis is one of some 70 losing vice presidential candidates. He was the running mate of Democrat Alton Parker in their unsuccessful 1904 run against a ticket led by Republican Teddy Roosevelt.
And, like all but three of our failed vice presidential candidates, he did not go on to become president. Only John Tyler, James Polk and most recently Franklin Roosevelt have escaped the fate of Davis, whose middle name I chose for the factor because of its juvenile-humor potential.
