Died: Oct. 28, 2008

Frank Douglas Gass of Kingston died Tuesday morning at his home after what his family said was "a hard fought battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis."

Mr. Gass was born Oct. 21, 1946, in Greeneville and was a son of the late Frank and Sue Gass.

He graduated in 1965 from Greeneville High School, where he was on the championship football team.

He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in aerospace engineering.

Mr. Gass had a "very successful 34-year career" with Pratt & Whitney where he was in research and development of propulsion systems for military jet engines. During his career he received the United Technologies Corporation Leadership Award.

In 2001, he was on the team that was awarded the Robert J. Collier Trophy for developing the F-135 propulsion systems for the three versions of the Joint Strike Fight aircraft.

After retirement from Pratt & Whitney, he accepted a position with the Department of Defense where he worked until he was diagnosed with IPF.

Survivors include his "loving wife": Linda Gass; his children: Andrea Leigh Gass of Boston, Mass., and Brian Douglas Gass, of Hartford, Conn.; a brother and sister-in-law: Bill and Dianne Gass; several nieces and nephews; a special aunt: Charlotte Thomas; and seven special cousins: Jo Christensen, John McGuffin, Tom Thomas, Sue Ellen Keys, Sue Tuck, Ann Reid and Ken McKenzie.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Friends will gather at Oak Grove Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday for a graveside service.

The Rev. James Lively will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Maurice May, Lewis Hayward, Glen Karlsons, Alex McLean, Dan McLean, John McGuffin, Tom Thomas, Jim Christensen and Kevin Gass.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Clevio, Steve Budrow, Rodney Johnson and Charles Gass.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, Suite F #227, 1659 Branham Lane, San Jose, CA 95118 (wwwcoalitionforpforg).

Oak Grove Cemetery

The above is my father he is of the Greeneville, TN Gass Family. He was laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery which is in the center of town that contains atleast 5 generations of the Gass family not including my Grandparents who are in another town cemetary.
