My Great Grandfather was William GASCOINE. He married my Great Grandmother, Sarah Elaine (or Helen) Lovegrove PEIRCE, in 1895 and had my Grandmother in 1896. All this in Peckham, London.
Unfortunately, Sarah and Nan were with Sarah's second husband by the time of the 1901 census, so that is no help tracing William.
On their marriage Certificate, William is shown as 33 years old, born about 1863, a bricklayer, father Henry, deceased.
I believe I have found him on the 1891 census, aged 35 (born 1856), living in Shoredich, London with his first wife, Sarah J COULDRIDGE and 2 children. He is still a bricklayer and was born in Newcastle.
In the 1881 and 1901 censuses this William is shown as born 1853 (28 in the 1881 and 48 in the 1901), always living in London and born in Newcastle. Of course, he may have been born somewhere near Newcastle and named Newcastle as the nearest place the census taker would recognise.
If anyone has any information on William GASCOI(G)NE, son of Henry and born between 1853 and 1862, please get in touch.
