Dear MLR991160 -

I have only recently looked again at my Garza line. I've known for awhile from my grandmother's birth certificate and family lore that my great-grandmother, Rafaela Garza, was from Villa de Santiago and that her parents were Uvaldo Garza and Francisca Garza. (In the 1950s my parents took my grandmother to Monterrey and to Villa de Santiago to visit relatives. Somewhere, one of my brothers still has the homemovie of the visit and some short footage of some of the relatives - I think my mother used to call one of the persons (not sure if neighbor or relative) Sra. Tamez.)

I recently found the parish records from Villa de Santiago and found a baptismal record for Rafaela in 1856 in Villa de Santiago with parents Ubaldo Garza and Francisca Garza.
I feel sure that this is my Rafaela. I had thought Rafaela was born in 1867 because on my grandmother's birth certificate Rafaela is listed as 30 and the math works out to 1867 or 68. However, I'm pretty sure she lied about her age because 1) both my mother, my aunt, and my grandmother always lied about their ages - my mother wouldn't even put my grandmother's birth year on her tombstone because she said that her mother always taught her that her age was nobody's business and 2) Rafaela would have been 30 years younger than her husband when my grandmother was born. I have a picture of them and he does look older but not 30 years older. So, I am pretty confident that my Rafaela Garza from Villa de Santiago with parents U(b/v)aldo Garza and Francisca Garza is the one listed in 1856. The Ma. Rafaela of 1857 is interesting. I will look for her in the baptismal records too.

I will keep searching this line but if you are out there still - I just wanted to thank you for the info. It's exciting to get leads like this.

Muchisimas Gracias,

Glenn
