There are those who will read/see/hear what they want to regardless of facts. There are those, too, who will begin with a famous personage in history and force their own lineage back to that person. Then there are thos who will try to amass as many people as possible on their family tree. It's not genealogy as you well know. I agree with you as I have done much research (alas, not enough) over the past 20 years and still keep finding new and exciting events in my families' past.
