Garza County in Texas was named after Jose Antonio de la Garza (1776-1851?),an early landowner in San Antonio and the first person to coin money in Texas; son of Leonardo de la Garza and Magdalena Martinez. He married twice; (1) Josefa Rivas and had three children; and (2) Maria Josefa Menchaca and had four children - one of whcih was a Leonard Garza, a Williams College graduate, banker and business owner in San Antonio in the 1890's.
