Montemayor, USAF-Ret, Date: November 04, 1998 at 09:18:50 In Reply to: regarding info on Leonardo Garza 1844 by Paul Garza of 1055 Garza County in Texas was named after Jose Antonio de la Garza (1776-1851?),an early landowner in San Antonio and the first person to coin money in Texas; son of Leonardo de la Garza and Magdalena Martinez. He married twice; (1) Josefa Rivas and had three children; and (2) Maria Josefa Menchaca and had four children - one of whcih was a Leonard Garza, a Williams College graduate, banker and business owner in San Antonio in the 1890's.
