Garza new world origins

Going back to the notion that Garza appears to be largely a new world name, and that the first Garza appears to have settled in Monterrey, Mexico, around 1569 -- How does one learn about that Garza and move forward to today? Also, does anyone know how/what the Garzas in Monterrey did during the Mexican-American war?
