De La Garza -or- Garza ????

The only explanation I could come up with and I am not an authority on this, in any way, is that when Marcos Alonso Garza y del Arcon first came to Mexico from Spain in the 16th century, he married twice and had 2 sons from each marriage. This may sound ignorant but here goes. When these sons were asked which Garza are you, they would reply since they all had the same father,"Yo soy de la Garza Trevino" or"Yo soy del la Garza Falcon". Besides sounding more of Spanish origin than just "Garza" which as you may know is also the name of a heron, through the centuries I would assume that they chose whichever was their preference. I would respect their perception either way. If I am mistaken, I stand corrected.
