Hi Marlene!
Circa 1970-1980 I was researchng my husband's Garvin line along with a Mr. J. C. Porter. We collected extensive information on the Carter/Fleming county lines. My husband's grandmother was Sophia Myrtle Garvin, daughter of Johnson Noble and his wife Sarah Eliza (Henderson) and Johnson was the son of James and his wife Sophia (Thomsom).I am more than happy to correspond with you or any of the other KY Garvin researchers who may read this.
In defense of your professional genealogist I would like to say that the records far enough back are so scarce that about all we can do is make assumptions but some little clue has to lead to the assumed solution.
I believe that John Garvin who married Sarah Johnston (dau of William) 25 Nov 1785 in Augusta County, VA were the parents of Johnson (wife Hannah Rice); Samuel (wife Abigail Smoot) and John who didn't marry.Johnson and Samuel were married twice.
The VA marriage was not accepted by me until I did a bit of study on the history of the area.Kentucky was not a state until 1792 and before that it was part of Augusta Co., VA and the southwestern part of PA. In one of my lines I found a man living in KYwho was born about 1790 in VA.He probably was born and lived in the same place his whole life.
I hope to hear from you and your connection to the Garvin line.
Sincerely,
Terry L. Donovan (Mrs. William Gary)
