John and/or James Garvin PA
Another researcher (Cora Abbott)is also descended from Nathan Pryor 1794, son of John Pryor and his wife Margaret (who is said to be Margaret Garvin).Alvin Abbott (Cora's husband) notes that a book (page 326, will 101), with abstracts of Cumberland PA County Wills book E, lists a James Garvin of Tyrone Twp.(Tyrone Twp is now in Perry CO PA just north of present-day Cumberland CO PA).The will was made 22 Dec 1785, proven 21 March 1787.The abstract runs as follows:
101. James Garvin. Tyrone.
22. Dec. 1785 21. March 1787.
Wife Mary.Five youngest children, viz. Margaret, John, Elizabeth, David and Easter ((??)).Son Thomas. Dau. Mary.Exrs. Wife Mary Garvin and John Davidson.
Witnesses,John Garvin.

Jane her mark Welch
Alvin Abbott also adds that John Garvin has a DAR record. His further research at the PA Archives went into local Tyrone tax records for the period 1781 to 1788, but the 1783-1785 records are missing. John is alive up through 1782 but 1786 and later records show only a "Widow Garvin" and James (who also shows up on the 1781 and 1782 tax rolls). This would suggest that (1) John Garvin died in 1786 and (2) James Garvin is a brother (or other same-generation relative) who also may have fought in the American Revolution.
Inquiries on this board indicate that someone (born at a later date) was named John James Garvin. If (1) and (2) were non-brothers, this would allow for (1) to be John "James" Garvin and (2) to be James Garvin of 1786 and later.
