Sue, My g-g-g-grandfather was Adam Garvie, a baker, who married Marion Girdwood in Edinburgh (Old Greyfriars Parish) on 24 September 1818. John Garvie, also a baker, married Marion's sister Margaret in July 1818 - I deduce (though with no confirmation) that John and Adam were brothers. I suspect (but don't know)they may be the John and Adam who were born to John Garvie and Katharine Martin in Kirknewton and East Calder in 1793 and 1796 respectively. This all sounds very like your Adam - could it be the same? The only children I know of from Adam and Marion are John (born around 1820) and his brother Alexander (born in Edinburgh in 1837) - but there may well have been more. Could Elizabeth have been the first daughter? The re-occurrence of the names Marion and Alexander makes it look possible. Do you have any more details, so that we could see whether it really is a match? In case my e-mail doesn't show up, it's johnandmargaret@thehaynes.wanadoo.co.uk Notify Administrator about this message?
