Colin, I am a Garvie from Ontario, Canada. My ancesters came from Bankfoot, Perthshire, Scotland, February 2, 1864 after purchasing land from the Crown in July 11, 1862 (200 acres in Derby Township, County of Grey, Province of Ontario, Canada). This purchase was made by Joseph Garvie, who with his wife and family, Alexander, John, William and Joseph came to Canada as indicated February 2, 1864. On the death of Joseph Garvie, the farm was divided the south 100 acres going to Alexander (Sandy) Garvie, the north half to John Garvie. Alexander(Sandy) Garvie raised his family on that farm. He had seven girls and three boys - Anne, Liza, Mary, children of the first marriage; Sarah, Janet, Peter, Alice, Walter, Hannah and Wilbur. Janet did not marry, Hannah did not marry, Alice married and became Alice Waddell, and Wilbur moved to Galt, Ontario. Walter Garvie (my Grandfather) took over the farm from his father and later married Mary Robertson. They had two sons and a daughter; Thomas Alexander (farmed the same farm after the death of his father 1946 until 1981, Walter Allan Garvie (now in Mississauga, Ontario Canada) and Margaret Janet (Now Mrs. Mervin Johnson of Derby). Alex Garvie (Thomas Alexander Garvie) now resides in Owen Sound, Ontario Canada. He had married in 1947 to Ina Sophia Day of Owen Sound. They had three children: George Alexander Garvie (Owen Sound, Ontario)and twins Donald Beverley Garvie (Mississauga, Ontario Canada) and Donna Sophia (now Mrs. Donna Sophia Kuhl of Tara, Ontario Canada).
