It's possible that he had a sister, Frances Ellen Garver who married 1)John Carpenter (4 children in Highland Co.,OH) then 2)Ephraim Adams (6 children - between Highland OH and Washingston Co., IA). In the 1860 census the families lived just a few houses apart - the households between were all related families. Their father might have been Abraham. There was another son, Joseph. In 1860 Peter's family was:
Jane, 47 b. Nova Scotia
William 18 b. OH
Peter, 16 b. OHA
Abraham, 14 b. OH
Sarah E. 10 b. IN
Rebecca 5 b. IN
Benjamin F. 3 b. IL

Ephraim & Fanny arrived in Washington Co., IA circa 1842.
