I am researching the descendents of John Truitt(Trewitt) in Lawrence County, Alabama. I have Orphans Court records for the disposal of John Trewhet (another spelling) where Harman Waldrop is an administrator from 1839-1847. Additionally, upon the final disposal to the heirs, James M. Gartrell is awarded slaves for settlement of his interest. Unmarried daughters of Truitt at the time of his death were Nancy and Harriet. The Lawrence County website search engine produced a hit for a marriage between an Isaac M. Gartrell and Harriett A.H. Tuvit on 28 Sep 1842. I believe this marriage to be the marriage between James M. and Harriet Truitt. Do you have any additional information on James M. Gartrell and his family? If you do, I would be most appreciative of anything you would care to share.
