Thanks Barry

I keep taking stabs at this line down to my parents. Here I go again.

RUFFORD
DELEBERE, CHELDRYE, POWER,

There is debate concerning the next five generatins. No printed documentation yet found and weak circumstancial evidence. As a unit these generations seem to belong together.

Robert RUFFORD esq yoman of the Crownewas born 1420. He was the son of Thomas RUFFORD and Elizabeth CHELDRYE born 1405. She was the daughter of Edward CHELDRYE born 1380 in Cheldrye, England,.

Thomas RUFFORD was born 1440 in Butlers, Buckingham, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of Robert RUFFORD and Mrs. Margaret RUFFORD. He married Phillipee POWER was born 1442. She was the daughter of Phillip POWER.

Rufford, of Nether Sapey, in Clifton-on-Teme.?This family appears, from similarity of arms, to be a branch of the Ruffords, of Rufford, co. Bucks. Walter Rufford was escheator of this county in the reign of Henry VI. ; his descendant, Walter Rufford, of Clifton, married Margaret, daughter of William Colles, of Bransford Court, and was father of Roger Rufford, of " Nethersope," who married Joan, daughter of Henry Jeffries, of Horn Castle, and had issue by her :?Walter, who married Jane, daughter of John Walsh; Francis, who married Anne, daughter of John Acton (by whom he had two sons, Roger and Henry); Charles; and six daughters, all married. The family pedigree was recorded at the Visitations of 1569, 1634, and 1682-3. Francis Rufford,* of the Hill House, in Lower Sapey, a descendant of this family, had, by Mary, his wife, four sons, Francis, James, Benjamin, and Philip. Francis died s.p.; Benjamin is the presumed ancestor of the Ruffords of Stourbridge; Philip, who resided at Horn Castle, and was mayor of the city of Worcester in 1780, was father of the Rev. Francis Rufford, rector of Kinwarton, co. Warwick, and grandfather of the Rev. William Squire Rufford, rector of Binton, co.]

The Rufford line from this point on is documented in the Visitation of the county of Worcester made in year of 1569.

John Rufford, yeoman of the Crown (perhaps born Butlers) married Miss Welles

According to the 1569 Worcester Visitation the John who married the daughter of Welles was the son of the Roger and the daughter of Delabere which started the tree.

There is also no documented evidence to which Welles family John's wife was related to. There are trees on the web indicating a connection via the family of Eudo Welles but these have no basis in fact.

John Rufford

Walter Rufford of Clyton married Margaret Colles of Bramford Court d/o William Colles/Coles 1448, Auferick in Porochia, Suckley, Worcester, England. This ties in the Coles/Colles line which has been debated after the Hall marriage.
