I have a picture of Martha “Mattie” Garton, if you would like a copy or scan (though it is faded and not a very good picture). Mattie married Edgar Meek, and her sister Maudie married Alex Meek (who was killed by lighting, I’m told). My grandmother Ruby (Garton) Deal also told me that Mattie died young. Mattie’s three children – Leta, Lizzie, and Agnes (I have baby pictures of them if you want) – were raised in other households. Mattie’s sister Jane “Jennie” Garton raised Lizzie, and Mattie’s sister Elizabeth Maude “Maudie” Garton raised Agnes and Leta. I have a newspaper clipping showing a school photo of the White School (near the Turnbull Primitive Baptist Church) listing Leta Meek as the teacher in 1915, I’m pretty sure it’s the same person (though she later married Senn Kinsworthy and lived at on Ward Street in Detroit, Michigan). Does this help any?
