Hi Tracy,
I found your posting this evening. Bertram Thomas Garside was born in Chorlton County in England in 1884. I have been checking out his parents. From war records I found his mom's mname was Elizabeth.I have been looking into the family for 7 years now. I think I found a census with both parents on it. If I have the right Garside, his father was Edwin Garside.
Bertram married Adelaide Cole. She was born in 1891. Her father was Henry James Frederick Cole and her mother was Elizabeth ( don't know her maiden name). So far I know Granny had 2 sisters, Gertrude and Jessie. Granny and Bertram were married in England. Their first child, Uncle Sid was born there. He was christened in St. Joseph's church in Manchester England. They then came to Canada. I haven't been able to find the ship that they came on yet. After coming to Toronto Granny and Bertram were remarried. Then came the other children, Aunt Rita, Aunt Ev, Uncle Herb. The next big event was when Bertram was killed in WW1. You can see the war memorial to him online. Then Granny gave birth to my dad, Jack. His father was John Latham according to his christening certificate.
Well that is all for the moment. There is a lot of filling that I have not included. If you are interested in this sort of thing, I'd be glad to fill you in on what I have learned.
Take care for now and give your mom a hug for me please.
