In Reply to: ROB'T GARROW, 1800'S north eastern Ontario by John Garrow of 346

I have a Robert Garrow (1840- ? ), the youngest son of James Garrow and Margaret Booth. His sister Isabella Garrow (1824-1896) married James Murison (1833-1908) and they emigrated to Elgin County, Ontario, Canada from Banffshire, Scotland in 1872.

There is also a grandson of James Garrow and Margaret Booth called Robert (1857-1940). His parents were William Garrow and Jane Keith.

James Murison wrote letters to his brother back in Scotland telling of his new life in Canada. In one letter dated 13 Nov 1873 he writes about Robert Garrow. I would deduce from the dates he is talking about his brother-in-law Robert b. 1840. James had received a letter from Robert in which Robert mentioned three of his wife's brothers were emigrating. One was a farmer and two were grocers. Another letter gave Robert's address as 1213 Third Avenue, New York.

I have no clues about any north-eastern Ontario connections, which is not to say this Robert didn't go there at some time.

Hope this helps!

Chris Duff
