I've just bought a book on the Scottish settlers of early Ontario and it mentions many of the Scottish families. My ggg grandmother Ann Garrow Catholic and born 1841 in Quebec married Stephen Scott in 1861 in Mornington twp, Perth County. I've discovered she is probably of Scottish stock although the story in the family was that she was metis and for 20 years I was pursuing the Gareau French Canadian angle. Her parents John Garrow and Harriet Wilkes had 17 children in one report. I've only found her brothers Joseph (born 1840) and John born 1837. I'm in the process of going through the hundreds of names in the ships lists that this book contains. Although I haven't found a Garrow family that can out before 1840 yet there are Wilkes families in the Ottawa area who are Scottish, most are prebyterian but one, possible a brother or cousin of harriett (Alexander wilkes) is Catholic. there are several Catholic Garrows all around the area of Glengarry County in eastern Ontario where many of the Catholic Scotch settled in the 1820-30 era as I've discovered from this book. I will post any findings of a Catholic Garrow family coming to this area. Does anyone else have any Scottish Garrow ancestors who came to Ontario at this time?
