Hi Stephanie, thanks for contacting me again. Still no luck with my Joseph, but I keep on searching.
Actually the dit St Onge that you found means that the Gareau family migrated from the Saintonge region of France, which in years was shortened to St. Onge. This is why it has been difficult for me to find my Joseph because sometimes he used Gareau for records and sometimes it was St.Onge.

There are several other "stocks" of the Gareau family, they are Gareau dit Vadeboncour, dit Menard, dit Payant, dit Arsenault and others that came from the different regions of France.

If you would like to see more on the Gareau go to this web site it is the site of Jean Gareau who is President of the Gareau Family Association of which I am a member of. http://www.genealogie.org/famille/gareau/E_gareau.htm

After 8 years of trying to find this family I am only one record away from finding Josephs family and that record is a marriage record for him and Louise Monette. Someday maybe I will get lucky.:-)

Kristin
