Hi, Rebecca!
Tell me about your Paul Garretson! What are your names back to him and where was he located and when?
Years ago there was a large group of Garrisons who, it was believed, were all related. All from a family of Garretsons in Delaware. My brother had YDNA done and we had his halpogroup and so everyone thought that that was their halpogroup too! Then another of the women in our group asked her brother to have his YDNA done and lo and behold, it was different from my brother's. Later another fellow who thought he was from these same people in Delaware in the 1600's had HIS YDNA done and he was a third halpogroup!So....not all of us could come from those people in Delaware.I know someone claims they are definitely from those Delaware Garretsons but since no one has given the proof, I don't consider that we KNOW who is from them. If any of us are. Yet.
I had been researching my family back from my known gg grandfather who is Buckner Garrison.Another member of our group found proof in SLC showing Buckner's father as Edmund Garrison. And once we had that name known, there was a lot more information for us on census records and so on. Edmund's father was a Paul Garrison, who was the son of another Paul Garrison who was married to a Margaret Donnally in Virginia, by 1745, when the ancestor of another Garrison man whose YDNA matches my brother's was born to the earlier Paul...calling him Paul Sr. (although not sure if THIS Paul Sr's dad MAY (not sure though)also be a Paul. ) I do not know for sure the name of Paul Jr's wife but we're working on it. Our Paul Sr. was earlier married to Elizabeth Frazier in Baltimore, I do believe.
We have a half dozen or so men who have had their YDNA done who match my brother's.WE can trace several of them back to Paul Sr. and Margaret Donnally. There are two who know their 4th great grandfather's name but not who his father was. But they definitely match us. We just have to figure out how. We have paper trails for the rest of us back to Paul Sr. But since we have so far not found in records where their 4th great grandfather fits in, we are still searching. He may be another son of Paul Sr's and we just haven't found records proving it. Or he might be a nephew of Paul Sr.s.
Any chance your father or brother, closest Garrison male relative might take a YDNA test which would hopefully match some already done ....or if not, down the road...to help you pinpoint a little closer. The YDNA is direct male line testing. If you'd like, email me at martibd "at" AOL.com,
Rebecca!
We are definitely not from the Isaac Garrisons who are another halpogroup.
