Shadrach Garrison married Mary Ann Nelson on Dec 09, 1837,
in Perry County, Indiana. She was a second wife, as, according to Sam Garrison in his book, "Garretson to Garrison," revised 2002, Shadrach married first in South Carolina in 1794. He did not know, nor have I found the name of his first wife.
In Sam's book, the aforementioned "Garretson to Garrison,"
he enters information re Mary Garrison filing for divorce from her husband, Shadrack Garrison, in Perry County, Indiana, Court Records, in Order Book C-3, on page 88.
He included the information: "(First entered in the November, 1841 Court) In the May Court of 1842 and again in the October, 1842 Court, when a divorce was finally granted for default. In the divorce she was given full custody of "the child." and the Court further ordered that Shadrack was deprived, from having forever, hereafter , the custody of said child, and ordered to pay all costs of the Divorce action and all costs and charges which Mary Garrison may have had in said suit....." from October Term of Court, 1842, Court Order Book C-3, Perry County, IN.
Sam says Shadrach did not appear in court for any of these actions and he was not found in Ky or Illinois censuses in 1840. It is not known where he was.
There is a child in Mary Garrison's 1850 census, Deer Creek Township, Perry Co, In., who was 8 years old, so apparently the child mentioned in the divorce. She married William Nelson, still in Perry County, In., November 11, 1866.
