Hi, Virginia...I wasn't clear when I wrote! That Isaac Garrison book is NOT about the family of the James Garrison RWS from NC, whom I wrote about! As far as anyone knows.

I think he might be from our line (but NOT for sure!)and our line is NOT connected to the Isaac Garrison line.

And that book is NOT about my family of Garrisons. I have a cousin whose ancestor Abner was claimed by the Isaac Garrison Association, as a woman who married into the family decided to claim he WAS from them. He is NOT. I researched him for a long time and then his nephew's, whose father was my gg grandfather's brother, CW pension petiton deposistion file was ordered by a cousin. Within the file were quite a few mentions of Uncle Abner with whom the boy lived for awhile, who performed his marriage to his first wife (our Abner was a circuit preacher) and so on. I got a photo of the deed for the house Abner bought in LaClede Co. within which it mentions he was living at the time in Lawrence Co. Ark., which was a great boon for identification! And also a copy of the bill of sale when he sold, with not only him but his wife Sarah selling. Additionally a boy his age is in the home of my ggg grandfather in the 1820 and 1830 census.

Then to cap it off, my brother had his DNA done and then the president of the Isaac Garrison Association sponsored a descendant of Abner's DNA done and IT MATCHED MY BROTHER!
So he is definitely ours but I am told the IGA still claims him in their latest book, by my cousin from Abner. She gave me the IGA book I have as she had an extra.

And I must say they did a great job on their own line and also did a good job on some Garrisons whom they do NOT claim but have the info in the book. It has been a big help to me and some of their researchers, especially Juanitas Irene Peddicord did a marvelous job! She researched every Garrison she encountered so she knew where to place them in families and could rule them out or in. She was right on about some of our family!

I think the problem comes with some people such as the one I mentioned saying that the family is from their line with no evidence. There are two other men from the cousin's family...but from ANOTHER Garrison line NOT related to Abner, whom this woman who married in claimed were Abner's brothers. They are NOT his brothers..not the same family..but from another line. It is possible that the two men (cousins to one another, not brothers) could be from the IGA family. I have no idea where their line is nor does the cousin whose maternal grandmother's birth line they are in. Her grandmother married into Abner's line..both Garrisons..Her birth family of Garrisons and the family of Garrison she married into (Abner's line from OUR family) are NOT related.

SO I am telling you this to make sure you understand that because they have a section about the James I think may be mine in there, they are NOT claiming him and I think that is right.I don't think he is theirs. There is a section on him on page 346 of the book issued before the current one. It says he may be a brother of Jesse Garrison and my Edmund Garrison (my ggg grandfather) and I think that he might be related also. It says parents of those men is not established but Edmund is the son of Paul Garrison, Jr.
In which case if this James is a son of Paul Sr. he is an uncle to Edmund. But Jesse might be his brother. We don't know yet.

And for all I know, you might even BE from the Isaac Garrison line. But check on James, since he was born in NC and went to Indiana and check the 1830 census for the county where your William Pickney Garrison was born and check if any have a male child under 5

Good luck!
marti
