Whew, Dee!I don't know the answer to your question about the Knob. In Sam's book he refers to it as being called The Knob and was on the waters of the Catawabo. My Paul and John Donnelly bought it together in 1746.A cousin (as proven by DNA and can be placed on paper as wel) mentioned seeing a Wm. Garrison RWS around that area and we are still piecing our line together...there are Williams in both our lines of course and thought I'd ask on the genforum if anyone knew about it.
Since we all had DNA, none of the 3 groups who originally made up the group who believed they were from Paul and Hendrik in New Amstel knows which if anyare from them now. Sam believed my line was from Paul and his line from Hendrik. I went over and over what he had and it looked right and there are folks from New Amstel and from Baltimore around my Paul in Virginia and in later spots. But I do not believe that we will find my line goes back to Paul because the only name that has matched my brother's DNA
is Garrison..and those Garrisons fit in the family of my Pauls in Virginia and the Carolinas in the 1700s. If we were from a Dutch line there would be many names matching because Dutch lines surnames changed every generation.
Another man came along after Sam died and he traces his line to Hendrik also although I couldn't find it matched completely, if we use Sam's lineage chart. In any event..amongst this group, we have 3 halpogroups. Ours is E1b1b1; Sam's through his donor, is R1b2, I think, and matches Jedediah!... and the other fellow is I1, the Viking GArrisons and matches to James Garrison RWS from Wilkes Co., NC. So we aren't from any one group and we don't know at this time if any of us will turn out to be from Paul and Hendrik.
It is perplexing because of the people around my Paul. But
it is possible that my Paul is still the one from Baltimore (I did find a clue that points to it but I am continuing to hunt on that one) and perhaps before that to New Amstel but just not as a descendant of Paul and Hendrik.
I do believe it is likely that my Paul Sr. was in Baltimore prior to coming to Augusta, Georgia and was married to Elizabeth FRazier in BAltimore. But I am still looking into that. In any event, I doubt my Paul Jr. is from Elizabeth.I imagine he is from a second marriage in Virginia. But their children would be half brothers to my Paul.
Jan van der Hof was never thought to be my line...his perhaps brother Paul was thought to be mine.
Thank you for mentioning the Accomack Garrisons, Dee! WhenI was still casting about for proofon my Paul's line I looked hard at them because there was an Edmund living roughly the same time as my Edmund. But it turned out he had no son Buckner and he died much earlier than my Edmund. Sam told me he believed the name Edmund came into the family through the Cantwells who married into the Accomack Garrisons. So maybe there is a connection. This winter I'll look at them again to see if there is.At the moment we don't know further back than our Paul Garrison, Sr.
That Thomas you mention was born too late to be ours. My Paul Sr's son Thomas was born c. 1745.His descendant matches my brother.I really hadn't thought of them for some time, so thanks!
That's very interesting, that book you copied and I will print out what you sent and save it in case I run into any of those names. None is pertinent at the moment. But you never know!
VanVoorst doesn't ring a bell, Dee..are you sure it was in my line or thought it might be? It sure isn't coming to me!
No, the Cantwells married into the Accomack Garrisons, as I recall.
So is Morris Knob the one on the Catawbo?Where would I access that article?
Elizabeth Bridwell doesn't ring any bell either. I don't know about the Indian name. I know Sam said his ancestor was one of mine but I haven't found it and dear Sam left too soon! If he had been here when we all got DNA done he would have had to dig in again. He did a lot of research that looked right and some thatWAS right, too.But like all paper research, sometimes it doesn't pan out and DNA is the proof of the pudding. He was right that Paul Jr. was mine and in following that, Paul Sr. is mine too..the guys who match my brother prove that out. But he thought that Shadrach was mine for a long time before he decided to claim him and of course I have no idea to whom Shad belongs.but not me, likely! And he thought Benjamin and James, also along with Shadrach in Barren Co, Ky were mine and as it turns our that James was the I1 James of Wilkes Co., not mine and Benjamin is his and maybe Shadrach too (or not!). And he thought Caleb was the third son in Paul's household in Pendleton Co., SC in the 1790 count..my Edmund, Caleb and Benjamin. And Caleb is not mine;heis somehow related to Levi whom Sam believed was in his line.Edmund is the onlyone I know was Paul's and possibly an Isham..who might be my Paul's brother or his son. So you see we are evolving. All I know for sure is that we are ok to Paul Sr. in Va in mid 1700s ..likely from Baltimore. With sons Thomas, John and Paul and very possibly the James in Rowan/Davidson Co., NC.Perhaps Stephan is a son of Paul Sr. I have not found thepaper trail though but since his descendantmatches somewhat to Mike and Stephan was in
Rowan Co., also a RWS, he's related somehow.Sam had rolled 2 Thomas Garrisons into oneand I have that straight
now. My Thomas is the one who married Comfort Roberts. Not the one married to Sarah Kendall. And Sam found a son Nehemiah and I have not gotten into looking hard for him. One in mind but still have to hunt.
DNA has proven I was right and Abner Garrison is in my line, my gg grandfather Buckner Garrison's brother. So that is good!
Anyway....I hope I answered all you asked and thanks for replying and giving me an idea of digging around some more on the Accomacks!
Marti
