There are new Garrison DNA test results that solve a mystery of long standing but, as often happens, creates some new mysteries. A descendant of Shadrack Garrison of Barren Co KY has been tested. Their paper lineage is indisputable. The donor was tested by Ancestry and my own donor was tested by FTDNA. There are only 32 markers that match up for the two companies. That is, there are only 32 markers that Ancestry tests of the 37 marker test done by FTDNA. The Shadrack donor is a perfect 32/32 match to my own third cousin. The results are on Ysearch and I would be happy to provide my line’s User ID to anyone who believes they may be related. The haplogroup for the descendant of Shadrack is R1b1b2 as is mine. Shadrack was in Franklin Co GA at the same time my Zebulon Garrison family was there. Later, Shadrack moved to Barren Co KY. Jedediah Garrison and his family moved into Franklin Co GA and his descendants are also a perfect match to Zebulon and to Shadrack. Shadrack is on the 1793 militia list of Capt Benjamin Easley. This list was published as a “Census Substitute” for Georgia due to the loss of all early census records for Georgia. The first record of Zebulon Garrison in Franklin Co GA was June 2, 1798 when he recorded the purchase of land from John Graves. Shadrack’s son John was born about 1798 in Georgia. Zebulon’s daughter Susannah born about 1800 is his first child known to be born in Georgia. Zebulon and his brother Salesberry Garrison owned adjoining property on Georges Creek of the Saluda River in Pendleton SC and an adjoining neighbor was Robert Easley. Zebulon later sold his property to Pleasant Easley. Salesberry died and his widow Mary married Merry Webb and moved her family to Warren Co KY. These Webbs were also on the Saluda River, at the same time the Garrisons were there. In the marriage records of Barren County Kentucky is the following marriage: Garrison, Benjamin to Susannah King, Sept. 16, 1815, Sur: Shedrick Garrison. Md. Sept. 17, 1815 by Jacob Lock. It is my understanding that this Benjamin Garrison is claimed by the descendants of James Garrison and Hester Roberts. This marriage is the primary reason they believed Shadrack was part of James’ family. DNA testing has shown that there can be no relationship between Shadrack and James RWS. I would love to exchange information with any of them who can help solve this mystery. As some of you may realize, we had a similar mystery appear earlier this year. A fellow whose paper trail seems to make him part of my line as a descendant of Henry Garrison or Orange Co NC, had DNA test results that place him in the same family as James who married Hester Roberts. The haplogroup is different from my own line so there is no possibility that descendants of this line are related to my line. The haplogroup for this fellow and the descendants of James RWS is I1 (eye-one). My problem is that I helped this fellow prove his descendant from my ancestors and now I can’t find where we made our error. These DNA test result confirm the belief of the late Sam Garrison that Shadrack Garrison was of his line. He would be pleased.
