I found the marriage date/location for Frances Adeline Garrison and Robert Cox: 19 May, 1838, in Adair County, KY. After hours of comparing census records for Garrison families in Adair County in 1840, and earlier Garrison families from Virginia (where we know Frances Adeline was born), I have enough circumstantial evidence to suggest that her parents were Valentine "Volley" Garrison and his wife Sarah Dowell, originally from Albemarle County, VA. I found him as head of household in Albemarle Co. in 1820 & 1830, in Adair Co. in 1840, and in Green Co., KY in 1850. One descendent of his has a family tree listing a daughter named "Sidney Adeline Garrison" who married "Samuel Robert Cox"; I think this may be the same couple, with some errors of first name, which isn't too uncommon. I'm still searching for more conclusive evidence, but I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track. If so, the Dowell family has a substantial amount of recorded history in Virginia and also Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois.
