Aaron Garretson/Mary Hammond of York/Bed

Looking for my needle in the haystack.
Known data..........
Aaron GARRETSON b/1759 m/Mary HAMMOND 1779.
This couple migrated to St.Clair/Napier in Bedford Co., PA.
Aaron d/1830 In his will he list that his four sons, John, Benjamin, William, and Joseph had received their portion prior to his writing the will.
He then list his daughters and addition sons, Aaron Jr. and Nathan.
My brick wall is the son John b/about 1781. WHERE TO, WHEN, AND WHY did he leave the Bedford area?
There has been a hint that he married Mary M. Leeper.
Now going the other direction; I have my gg-gf (documented) as Joseph GARRETSON b/1824 in PA. He married Mary Jane GREER b/Indiana d/o of John GREER b/IN to Belmont Co., Ohio. They were married in 1846 in Jefferson Co., Ohio; and their son William Bates Garretson was b/1847.
In the 1850 Jeff. Co., Ohio census, it list Joseph and Mary. It gives Joseph's parents as John b/about 1781 in PA and Mary b/about 1782 in VA.
In a book by Doyle, it gives a bio of William Bates Garretson; listing his parents as Joseph and Mary (Greer) Garretson. And William's gf as John of PA.
From online data and a book of the Vale/Garretson families, it gives Joseph b/1824 with his parents as Joseph (s/o Aaron) and Mary Penrose. The only problem with this is that Joseph was b/1824 and Joseph and Mary Penrose was not married until 1830 & the census and the Doyle book lists his father as JOHN.
Any assistance of this branch of the family appreciated.
Audrey a transplant from JEff. Co., to Florida.
