I had found the death certificate for Joseph Garretson b/1824 d/1918. And the notation that his father was also Joseph. Mother unknown I didn't mean to imply that this was wrong. Just the possibility that the informant could have been.
I need to get a real copy of the death certificate.
Even though it is a "primary" source, there are frequently errors. Often depending upon who the informant was. Since Joseph was 94, his 2nd wife shouldn't have been too much younger.
When my husband died a few years ago, I had TYPED a notice for the local newspaper. His mother's maiden surname was BOWN (heirtage England) the paper's staff saw fit to CHANGE the surname to BROWN without calling me.
There are other Joseph Garretson in the area.
