While I make no claim to being an expert on the Garretson families of New Castle Co, DE, I did make a detailed study of them in 1993 after spending a week in the genealogical library in Wilmington. My study and analysis show that there are some mistakes in "The Garretson News." And, I assure you that my records are by no means complete. I was not aware of any siblings for Henry-1716 (m Elizabeth Cantwell). Henry-1721 (m Ann -----) had brother Paul who came from Netherlands with him and their mother Elizabeth Hendricks. It is claimed that they had an older brother John. There is confusion about him but I will not take space to discuss that here. The John Garretson listed in the News [vol IV, No 4, pp2-5, Nov 1945] was not a son of either Henry Garritson. In fact, Henry-1716 didn't have a son John. However, some John Garretson married Hester Turner (using modern spelling) and had two known children: Abiah Garretson who married 15 Jan 1760 Peter Peterson [Burr, p712]. a marriage not shown in News, and a son John Garretson. Hester was from a Harlem, NY family and it is possible her husband John Garretson was from that area too. The will of Thomas Turner, dated 1709 Harlem, NY, probated 1716 New Castle Co, DE, named son Daniel and mentioned but did not name daughters [CDW. p19]. The 1748 will of John Garretson named wife Hester and her brother Daniel Turner as extrs [CDW, p41, from orig Will Bk G, p231]. {The Springers [S-Communicants, VII, p78, note 86], in discussing possible parentage of Geizie Jansen (half sister to Henry & Paul Garretson), mentioned that she "almost always attended [communion] with some member of the Walraven family." Time and again one finds family groupings referred to in this list of communicants. I quote the previous to show that communion appears to have been a celebration one took part in as a member of a family, rather than as an individual. That custom plays a part in my identification of Henry, Sr's son John.} The man I believe was Henry, Sr's son was called John Garretson Frill (a designation I cannot explain and one by which this John was indexed in Burr as if it were his surname) married 15 Nov 1720 Miss Anna Pâlsson [Burr, p259]. Johan Garretsson and wife Anna had Anna b 10 Aug, bp 13 Aug 1721 [Burr, p266; "Errata" to Burr publ separately 1919, p160]. He appears in only one communicant record but it is an important one: 8 Mar 1722. Johan Garrisson and his wife Annika, also the sister Elizabeth Garrisson in her illness [S-Communicants, vol VI, p151]. Johan Garrisson buried 6 Apr 1722 [Burr, p273]. For some time after his death, his widow attended services with his widowed mother Ann and his sister Elizabeth. Note that John died in April between the communion in March and the one (below) in May. [All from S-Communicants, vol VI.] 13 May 1722 John Garrisson's widow Mrs Anna; Elizabeth Garrisson, p152]. . . . .15 Jul 1722 Henry Garrisson's widow Anna; John Garrisson's widow Anna; Elizabeth, Henry's daughter [p153]. . . . .18 Nov 1722 Henry Garrison Senior's widow Annika; John Garrisson's widow Anna; Elizabeth Garrisson [p154]. . . . .10 Mar 1723 Old Henry Garrisson's widow Mrs Annika; John Garrison's widow Mrs Anna; Elizabeth Garrisson [p156]. . . . .16 Jun 1723 Henry Garrisson's widow Mrs Annika, with the daughter Elizabeth; John Garrisson's widow Mrs Anna [p158]. . . . .5 Apr 1724 Henry Garrison's widow Mrs Annika with daughter Elizabeth; John Garrisson's widow Mrs Anna [p238]. . . . .23 Aug 1724 Henry Garrisson's widow Annika; Elizabeth Garrisson [p240]. The last entry above is the first entry for the group which is missing the name of John's widow. Reason? She had remarried. 6 Aug 1724 Anna Garritson, widow, married Jesper Walraven [Burr, p288]. It is important to my identification of John (who married Ann Pâlsson) as Henry's son that it be noticed that Elizabeth Garretson who received communion so many times with John's widow was called "the sister" in the one entry naming him and often as daughter of Henry Sr and wife Ann in numerous entries with John' widow. This association compels me to identify the John who married Ann Pâlsson as the son of Henry Garritson, Sr and his wife Ann. Paul Garretson, brother of Henry-1721, married Elizabeth Harris, daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth [New Castle Co Deeds, Bk B-1, pp 392-397]. I found record of only three children for him: 1. Garret m by 1721 Esther ----- and had three children Ester (b 25 Dec 1724), Hindric (b 28 Jan 1728) and Elizabeth (bp 1723) [Burr, pp294, 305]. The bp recs for Esther & Henry list their father as Garrit Pâlsson Garretson which shows his father's name was Paul. 2. Sarah, inf dau of Powell Garrison, was bp 18 Jun 1716 at Immanuel Anglican Church, New Castle [Holcomb, p181]. 3. John mar 14 May 1730 Elizabeth Cock (d/o Samuel & Brita Peterson, Finns, and wid of Christian Joransson and Valentine Cock) [Burr, p332; Craig pp95-96, 107]. Their known child was Thomas bp 13 Dec 1730 several weeks old [Springer. "Recs of Holy Trinity Ch, 2nd Bk, Baptisms" (1730) p214], who mar 17 Apr 1754 Jane Ferris [Burr, p696]. [While I cannot prove it, I suggest that Thomas & Jane moved in the 1760s to Duplin Co, NC where a Thomas "Carrison", seaman, purchased land in 1765 and where Jane Garrison was on the tax rolls in 1783. -CCG] I know of no record which identifies the father of John Garritson who married Abiah Egbert.
