Not sure how much help I'll be but here are a few quick observations.
Your Mason was in Giles County Tennessee in 1820, right? I notice his name is shown as GARRISON instead of Garrettson. So I did a search for that name. In 1810 I found Mason GARISON in Logan County Kentucky. Logan is very near Sumner Co. TN. Don't know if it's your guy or not but there's also a John GARRISON in Logan County that census. Mason's last name is shown as Garson in the 1830 census. Mason's marriage record even shows Garrison so that's probably the spelling you should search for while looking for his father. It's not a bit uncommon in that era for the spelling to be "flexible."
There's an Aron GARRISON in Rockingham Co. NC in 1790 & 1800. There is a young son in the 1790 household so it could be Mason born 1782. No Garrisons in Rockingham in 1810. I found an online tree for an Aron Garrison born 1742 in Surry Co., NC who had relatives who show up in Rockingham.
From my own records I do have an Aaron Garretson born 1768 in Pennsylvania but he stayed in Pennsylvania. He was a Quaker, the son of William Garretsn and Mary Frazer and he had several brothers so maybe one of them had an Aaron.
