I’m seeking any and all information available concerning the JARRET, JARRETT, JARRAT, JARRED or GARRARD families who lived in the Rockbridge Co., VA area during the early to –mid-1800s. One of my direct ancestors, a NANCY JARRETT, married a John G. Trout in Rockbridge Co., VA on August 25, 1840, as did a JESSE JARRETT , who married a Mary (“Polly”) McCleland, on March 24, 1812. Any information or leads at all concerning this line would be appreciated. As a side note, one fellow descendant has mentioned that she heard that Nancy may have been of partial Native American descent, which may tend to suggest her father was an Indian trader at some point – the type of men who typically had a “Caucasian” wife, as well as a Native American wife (a.k.a., a squaw, as they were referred to by many back then). Apparently having a Native American wife allowed them to have a better and more trusted relationship with the Native Americans with whom they traded. In any event, any related leads would be most appreciated. Bob Notify Administrator about this message?
