I would like to throw out a possible correction to the information on the children of Justus Garard and Rachel Corbly that I have seen. In Life & Times of Rev. John Corbly and it's updates, 11 children are identified: Jonah Jospeh (born 1774-6; married Mary Ann Morris) John (born 20 Mar 1777; married Mary Kirby) Elizabeth (born 12 Mar 1778; married John Fordyce) William (born about 1780) Sarah (born 29 Aug 1782; married Samuel Morris) Mehetable (born about 1785; married ??? Nichols-probably Volen/Valentine) Rachel (born about 1788; married John Long) Justus Jr. (born 1790; married Lavissa Knotts & Emeline Mestrezat) Corbly (born 4 Apr 1793; married Sarah Hickelberry) Jonathan (born 4 July 1794; married Nancy Ann Gregg) Abner (born 1797-8; married Hester Unknown) While doing some research in Greene County, PA I came across land records in which the children of Justus Garard were selling their 1/11 shares of his land to two of the sons, Corbly and Abner. So it does appear that there were 11 children who survived, but what's interesting is that there is no William but a daughter Nancy, wife of John Reese of Fayette, IN. Also, daughter Mehetable married George Nichols. In these land records: Jonah and Mary Garard of Monroe County, OH sold their 1/11 share to Justus, Garard, Jonathan and Abner Garard John and Mary Garard of Warren County, OH sold their interest in the land previoiusly of Justus Garard to Corbly Garard Samuel and Sarah Morris sold their 1/11 interest to Corbly Garard George and Mahatible Nichols sold their 1/11 interest to corbly Garard John and Rachel Long sold 3 undivided shares and 1/4 of one undivided share of real estate of Justus Garard to Corbly Garard Justus and Emiline Gararrd sold 1/11 interest and 1/4 on 1/11 interest in land previously of Justus Garard to Corbly Garard Jonathan and Ann Garard sold 1/11 interest and 1/4 of 1/11 interest to Corbly Garard John and Nancy (late Nancy Garard, daughter of Justus) Reese of Fayette County, IN sold their interest in the land previously of Justus Garard to Abner Garard. These deeds were dated between 1829 and 1833. From census records, it appears that Nancy was born 1789/90 and died between 1860 and 1870 in Fayette County, IN. Mehetable was born 1798-99 and died 24 April 1884 in Greene County, PA; she married George Nichols (both of their probates can be found in Greene County - they had no children. I have never found any information on the son William - there does appear to be a son through the 1820 census who could be he, but I think he must have died as he is not included in the division of Justus' estate. Any thoughts? Jesse Stewart Notify Administrator about this message?
