Hello Lee!

I believe that the Samuel GARNETT you are looking for might be a son of Hamlet GARNETT and Louisa [nee WADE] GARNETT of Teltown, Meath County, Ireland. Louisa WADE was the daughter of Hamlet WADE and Mary LANGFORD. Hamlet and Louisa had at least six other children, namely: George Charles GARNETT; Sarah "Sally" GARNETT, Thomas Gerrard GARNETT; John GARNETT; William GARNETT and Hamlet GARNETT Jr.

Hamlet GARNETT Sr. was the son of Rev. George Charles GARNETT [who died in 1828 at Williamston, Meath County, Ireland] and Margaret WADE who were married at Williamston in 1828.

The Rev. George Charles GARNETT, father of Hamlet GARNETT and 7 other children, was the son of Rev. John GARNETT and Mary Jane GIBBONS. [By the way, a portrait of this Rev. John GARNETT was recently sold by auction on E-Bay---see my earlier message on this GenForum bulletin board for further details on this Rev. John GARNETT].

Other members of this same GARNETT family of Meath County, Ireland emigrated from Ireland to Canada during the famines of the 1840s and 1850s and settled first near London, Ontario. Some of their descendants later migrated west to Manitoba in the 1880s and 1890s.

According to the Ontario Birth Registrations, Samuel and Elizabeth [nee ARNOLD] GARNETT's daughter, Ada Louise GARNETT, was born on September 26, 1883 and her birth was registered at Dundas, Ontario [Reg. #037949].

There are no other GARNETT children born or registered in Dundas, so presumably Samuel and Elizabeth GARNETT either had no other children or perhaps moved somewhere else. I have not been able to locate any death or burial records for Samuel, Elizabeth or Ada Louise GARNETT in the Ontario records.

You may be interested to know that Samuel GARNETT's brother, Thomas Gerrard GARNETT, migrated from Ireland to the Fiji Islands in the South Pacific. A letter written by Louisa Wade GARNETT from Ireland to the Colonial Secretary of Fiji requests information about her son, Thomas Gerrard GARNETT. A reply written by the Colonial Secretary to Mrs. Louisa GARNETT explains that her son Thomas Gerrard GARNETT was then residing in the Fiji Islands and living "the life of a native". He had a family in Fiji [presumably of a native Fijian wife] and descendants of this family are still living in the Fiji Islands. Thomas later married Kate BUCKNELL who had migrated to Fiji from Australia.

I have a great deal more information about the history and genealogy of this particular GARNETT family from Meath County, Ireland if it is of interest and relevance to you. Please get in touch with me right away--I am very interested in comparing research findings with you on this GARNETT family line.
