There were actually two different men who had the name Richard Brooke GARNETT. I assume that the one you are looking for was probably Brigadier-General Richard Brooke GARNETT who died on the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Before the Civil War, General GARNETT had spent time on the Western frontier. He was a descendant of the GARNETT family of Virginia.

I have a great deal of information about Richard Brooke GARNETT, his family, and his military career.

He apparently had only one son [illegitimate] named William GARNETT born in about 1855 in the Dakota Territory. I have an outline of subsequent descendants of this GARNETT family line. Get in touch with me if you would like to know more about General GARNETT and his family's history.
