William Frank GARNER, 1866 AR - 1948 CO, was the grandson
of William Peter GARNER, 1816 TN - 1870 AR and Harriet GREER, 1818 TN - 1861 AR.My g-g-grandfather, John Henry
GARNER, 1808 NC - 1872 AR married Harriet's sister, Sarah
GREER, 1816 TN - 1872 AR.Harriet and Sarah were supposed
to be full-blood Cherokee Indians. We searched the Eastern Cherokee Applications, by Q Miller, and "Cherokee
By Blood", at the National Archives, KC MO, and Mid-Continent Library in Independence (Jackson) MO for evidence. There were 7 GARNER, 32 GREER, 1 WALLACE, and
4 BURGE listed as making application to be recognized as
of Indian blood, but only rejections shown. Many GARNERS
still insist that they do have Indian blood, but we have
not found evidence. Will keep looking! I have never heard of any but the GREER sisters bringing Indian blood into the line. As for "Alice DAVIS", one source shows her as a second wife, but I wonder if Elizabeth "Eliza" A. DAVIS sometimes used her middle name, which could have been Alice. The 1900 census shows the 3-yr old as "Pink". We show "Ozzel".There may be a very early connection with the "GARNER-KEENE" line, as they are found in the same areas, but our line is sure back to (Rowan) North Carolina, then TN, and then AR. As I say - we will keep
searching!A cousin,James Underwood GARNER
