Okay, I noticed in some family trees that Parish Garner is listed as having a son Henry GArner born 1760 NC.I also noticed that alot of people have him listed as dying 1835 Hardin TN.I do not find anything to support this as of now. As a matter of fact, I believe the Henry Garner SR of Hardin TN.The one that reported he was 70-80 years old moved on to Clinton Co, Ky. I know this seems unlikely. But the Henry Garner that died in Clinton Co, Ky 1860 was actually born in 1760 NC. It is listed on the Federal Mortality Census that he was 100 years old. This is the same Henry Garner married to Catherine (Guffey) but he lists his age as 75 on the census instead of being closer to 90 years old.Alot of them misconstrued their age.
I did notice that there were a few family trees with an James Garner and Betty Freeman having a son Henry.Henry having a son named Freeman Garner supports this. The death in Hardin TN 1835 seems to be transposed from Parish's Henry to James Henry alot too.
I believe that the Henry that died in Clinton Co, Ky is the Henry listed as Parish's son.And not the Henry descended from Peter from Germany. For one, Henry's kids are named after the GArner-Keene family names. George W, Pleasant, Marion, Jackson.
There is an issue of place of birth and whereabouts? Does this older Henry's whereabouts confirm the theory.A little County History.
First, Henry's county of birth has never been determined, but it may be Rowan.Orange County and Rowan county were adjacent and Rowan (formed 1753) was to the west of Orange Co. NC., Surry was then formed out of Rowan and Guilford was formed from Orange and Rowan. Parish's family ended up in Kentucky as did this Henry.
Kentucky was formed from Kentucky Co, VA. Cumberland Co, was formed from Green County in 1798.Henry Garner is granted land in Green Co in 1799.Pulaski was also formed out of Green and lincoln. Wayne was then formed out Cumberland Co. in 1800.So it is safe to say, that Garners living in Wayne Co. were also living in Cumberland at one point. GArners living in Pulaski may have been
Okay, I am going to discuss the earliest Garners in Cumberland Co, Ky.I found a Henry Garner listed on the Tax list of Cumberland,Co Ky for 1799. So I decided to do a little more digging. Palla Garner is first listed in this area (found to be Parish Garner Sr) in Somerset Pulaski, which borders the cumberland River, and cumberland County. However, the onlyGarner I found in Cumberland, Co Ky was in the 1830 Census, and his name was Curtis Garner. I am aware that there was a Henry "Curtis" Garner. This Curtis's birth is around "1790" as he listed 30-40 years of age. In 1820 I found a Henry Garner in Overton TN,aged 26-45 (runs abut to cumberland Co, Ky).I do find a David, David, John in Wayne in 1820. . I found a Henry Garner in the 1830 Census with a Henry Jr with the appropriate age for Henry Garner born 1760, He was in Hardin TN? this part I don't get. But seeing the link between Parish and this Henry clears it up a little? There was a Peggy (Possibly Margaret) Garner living next to them as well as a David. both 30-40 years of age.
More County History.Ok, so the Garners living in Wayne Co, Ky were also living in Cumberland at one point.I do find a Henry (40-50)in Wayne as well as a David, Henry, Thomas.Adair was formed to the north of Wayne and cumberland bordering both counties and the Cumberland River. Russel was then formed to the north of Wayne carved out of Adair, Cumberland, and Wayne Co ( I find Parrish living in Russel) By the way, the cumberland River divides Wayne and Pulaski counties. If you notice the family pretty much revolves around this area. And the Henry Garner descendants of interest continue to live in cumberland county, KY. on the river. Lastly, in 1836 Clinton Co, Ky was formed out of Cumberland. And this is where Henry Garner was also given land.He was granted land in the Clinton Co as well. Then in 1840 he shows up in Clinton Co. with only himself, his son Henry, his son Isaac, and his son Stephen's households. These are the only Garner's in Clinton Co, KY in 1840.The Parish descendants also share land from the former Cumberland/Green Co.
Because of this pattern and the proximity the families stayed to one another, I believe this confirms this Henry Garner being a descendant of Parish.
