Alan,
I can't thank you enough for your willingness to be tested.
I suggest you go to FamilyTreeDNA.com.It will give you a lot of info.If you click on the tabs at the top, pricing, FAQ, privacy, etc., they will give you the details. Apparently there is no Garner project at this time, but there is a site for Gardner. A great example of a DNA project is the one for the Barbees. It shows charts of all people tested and there relationships.Much has been accomplished in making connections heretofore only guessed at.
You do not have to go anywhere to take the test. You order the kit right from the site. The test consists of swabbing the inside of your mouth with a q-tip (they provide), putting it is a container (they provide) and returning it to FTM.I have taken the test and there is nothing to it.Unfortunately, it is not cheap and I recommend the more complete 37-marker test, which costs $289.Since I am at a dead end on trying to prove my Job being a son of Capt. James Garner, brother of your John Fushee, I am willing to foot the costs. You know your line and only those of us that are descendants of Job would benefit from your willingness to help.I can either send you a check for the test or order it myself and have the kit sent to you. Before proceeding I will contact a living descendant of my Job and make sure he is willing to take the test also. The important thing is that the results of the two tests be available to me and a few other Garner researchers.Confidentially of the person tested cam be maintained to whatever extent you desire. Some type of identifier can be used if that is of concern.
Y-DNA37 - 37 Marker Test: tests the Y chromosome for genetic matches between males. Results are placed in our Y-DNA database and when 2 people show the same identical or near identical results, we will inform both parties if you have both signed the FTDNA Release Form. A perfect match of 37 markers means a lesser number of generations before a Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) can be determined. The customer receives a Certificate & report generally describing Y-DNA sequencing and the meaning of probability between matches.
FAQ give:
4. Is it possible to pay for a test to be sent to another person (third-party billing)?
Sure. In the ordering process there are 2 screens. The first screen is to enter the information about the person that will do test. When you advance to the second screen, you can enter the billing information, in case it is different from the individual that is being tested.
11. How do I place an order for someone else?
Make sure you put in the name of the actual test taker in the first screen of the ordering process.
Enter the address the kit and the results will be mailed to. If this is not the address of the test taker put “c/o" the person receiving the kit, on the first address line. You can enter the address on the second line.
If you want the kit sent to one address and the results sent to another address enter the address you want the kit sent to. Once the test taker has received the kit and returned it to our office you may change the address to the one you want the results sent to.
Enter the phone number you wish to use as the contact number for this kit.
Enter the email address(es) you want to be notified of the order and the results. You may enter more than one email address.
Once you have filled out the information on this page click “Continue” and fill out the billing information. Your order will not be processed until you hit the “Confirm” button.
