Garner Immigrant Story -- Legend or Truth???
My Dad has told my brother and I a story about our Garner ancestors that has been handed down by word of mouth. After reading the posts on the forum, the story appears to have merit. They say that there were six Garner brothers who immigrated here from ??? (England perhaps). One settled in Virginia, one in Arkansas, one in Alabama, one in Texas, and two in Mississippi. According to my Dad, the Mississippi Garner's were still in contact with the Arkansas branch as near back as my Grandfather, whose Uncle settled in Arkansas as well. Apparently, part of this branch along with a few from the Mississippi branches appear to have migrated to the eastern part of TN where a branch still is today. I live in Memphis were part of the Mississippi branch is located as well as still in Northern Mississippi around Holly Springs, Potts Camp, and the Oxford area. We know of part of this TN branch that has migrated back to the Memphis area today. If any of this sounds familiar please let me know. I am just beginning my geneological research and have little to go on except the names of recent family members, back only three generations from my own. My branch down here is very large though. I have no doubt I will find some very useful information in Dr. Sam's book. Until I receive it, please feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
Kristie :-)
