Dr. Sam,
I agree, actually I have found several others in Franklin county that seem to fit. Maybe you can enlighten me reference these George W.Garners. (1) is the son of George W. Garner Sr. and is referred to as George W. Garner Jr. I can find no birth date for this individual but,he is in the right time frame. Additionally, the names of his siblings match our branch of the Garners. (e.g. Larkin Garner, Thomas Garner and Rebecca Garner) are all siblings of this George, but the records on line show no children bearing these names, for this George. (2) George W. Garner is the son of David Garner. David Garner shows up on the Franklin County 1840 Census. There is also a George W. Garner with an apparent birth date of 1827 associated with a Sturday Garner(thats the way it is spelled, but I believe this to be Sturdy Garner and Kathleen Davis) This spelling of Sturdy is found in both the 1840 Franklin Census and the 1850 Franklin Census. So all I can assume is that was the true spelling of his name, or the census taker wrote it out phonetically both times.
Looking at many of the dates Associated with George W. Garner from Franklin county, they have been applied in many cases incorrectly. it appears that dates like 1837 and 1874 have been applied to many people with that name, living during that period. I belive many are inaccurate and misapplied.
Additionally, Dr. Sam I have you most current book, just tell me what pages to look on. It appears that my ancestors were in Franklin County for a long period of time, but as you know, originally, Franklin county Georgia was
broken up into Habersham, Rubun, Union etc. including portions of South Carolina that became Pickens and Oconee Counties. Thank you in advance for your help.
