Dear Ms. Garner, You did not mention what part of NC your family was from. There are Garners in my family. They are from Carteret Count, specifically, Newport, Beaufort, Morehead and surrounding area. My Maternal Great-Grandmother was Bessie Bell Garner, married to Fonnie(Alphonso)Elliott and they had 9 children together.4 or 5 of theit children died before they reached school-age. The Bell in my Great-Grandmother's name was her Mother's maiden name.There are a great many black Bells in that area,however I am not sure if it was because they were former slaves taking the names of their Masters or if there were any inter-racial relationships,I guess anything is possible.
