Thanks for the excellent post!I have placed my responses below within your questions:
This is a wonderful document and would like to learn more. Am not sure if I have all this in my mind correctly!
Your Michael is the son of Michael and Mary Shore Love. Do you know how Mary fits into the greater SHORE family tree?
####Not correct - I am not familiar with Mary Shore Love, only Mary Shore.
Three generations of Michael Garmons make it more difficult to understand the connections.
Michael Garmon married Sarah (Sally) Banion or Pinion.Michael and Sarah Banion Garmon had a son, Michael, who married Mary Shore.
Michael and Mary Shore Garmon had a son, Michael who married Jinsey Little.
It is this last Michael who is the author of the letter that we are referring to.
This Michael was a brother to Rowan Garmon, my g-g-grandfather.This Rowan married an Elizabeth Love also. All the Garmons lived in Cabarrus County, NC.Rowan later moved to Mississippi with some Garmon kinsmen.####
In this letter, Michael is writing to his uncle John, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Love Shore. Would this not mean that his mother Mary is John's sister?
####Correct.Michael is writing to John Shore who is his uncle on his mother’s side of the family. That would mean that his mother, Mary Shore Garmon, was a brother to John Shore.I am unfortunately not that familiar with the Shore line. However, the letter states that at least at the time of the writing that the Shore family was in Forsyth County, NC.I got the letter from Linda McDaniel Smith, a Shore/s Researcher at the URL I listed at the bottom of my original post.Ms. Smith states the following about John Shore:
JOHN SHORE's name was probably originally JOHANNES SCHOR (pronounced YO-HAN SHORE). A resident of Habersham County, Georgia, (later Banks County). John Shore is listed in several censuses, and gives his place of birth as North Carolina. Taking all censuses into account, the best estimation of his year of birth is 1793. We, descendants and researchers of the Schor/Shore line, believe the Johannes Schor listed in the Moravian Records as the son of Johan Heinrich Schor and Elizabeth Love
is OUR John Shore of Habersham County/Banks County, Georgia. The censuses consistently bear out North Carolina as his place of birth, and the age matches perfectly, although there are other John Shore's born in Surry County who are about that age. Also, a LOVE researcher (Wayne Love) shows Elizabeth's parents to be James Allison Love and Mary Elizabeth INGRAM. Many of John Shore's descendants are named "Ingram". I am now going to include these names tentatively as the parents of OUR John Shore, with the stipulation that anyone researching these names knows that it is not "proven beyond a shadow of a doubt." We are standing on circumstantial evidence alone and may still stand corrected.####
The letter also mentions Aunt Patience. Elizabeth Love who married Henry Shore is the daughter of James and Mary Ingram Love. Mary is the daughter of John and Patience Berry Ingram. Elizabeth Love (who married Henry Shore) had a sister Patience who first married Claiborne FREEMAN and then after his death to TAYLOR. This Patience would be the possible great aunt of your Michael Garmon. Is this who the letter refers? Or, could Elizabeth Love Shore have had a daughter named for her sister Patience? I see online that there is a Patience Shore who lived in Stokes NC and who later married before removing to TN.
####Regretfully I do not have a good answer for this.It could be either. My guess is since he called her “Aunt Patience” this would be the sister of her mother, but it could be a great aunt also as you suggest.####
Also in the letter is the mention of Jacob Petry. He and family removed to Pope County Arkansas where he died ca. 1845. Two of his sons (George married Elizabeth Love and John married Martha Love) married daughters of Jonah and Mary Garmon Love. Mary is the sister to your Michael who married Jincy Little. George Petrey went to California for gold and on the way met up with Jeronimo. He and wife Elizabeth lived and died in Sonoma County CA. John and Martha lived just east of Russellville near Pottseville. Both were instrumental in founding Methodist Churches in AR and CA.
I see your a deascendant of Rowan Garmon. Would love to learn more of his wife Elizabeth. Since LOVE family records do not provide for her parents, who do you think they are? I am believing she may be the daughter of Thomas Love.
####Again I do not have any information on this.According to another Love Researcher in the quote above, it is believed that she is the daughter of James Allison Love and Mary Elizabeth Ingram. It could very well be that she is the daughter of Thomas.Since you seem to have extensive knowledge of these families, I would appreciate any leads you could give me on these ancestors.####
With warm regards,
Dockie
