My great grandmother was Sara Jane Garmon, who married William Berry Whitten. I have no data concerning Sara Jane. However, William Berry Whitten was born on Sept 20, 1861. William and Sara Jane had three sons: Arthur Eugene Whitten, James Arlington Whitten (my grandfather, born August 23, 1891), and William Berry Jnr. All three sons were born in Cherokee Co., Alabama.
William Berry Whittens' great grandfather, Charles Whitten Jnr., was buried in Cedar Bluff, Cherokee County, AL after 1850. I believe he moved from SC to Cherokee County sometime around 1820.
I'm searching for details on Sara Jane and her lineage. We have always been told that she was either full blood Cherokee, or at least descended from Cherokee Indian.
