Franklin Garman was born 18 May 1857 in Ohio and died 16 Nov 1900 in Hancock county, Ohio. His wife, Hortense, was born 30 June 1858 in Ohio and died 25 August 1925.Her parents were both from Virginia and both of Franklin's parents were from Pennsylvania. Both Franklin and Hortense and many of their offspring (and his mother and father) are buried in the Eagle Creek Cemetery in Hancock county, Ohio.
Known siblings of Stanley, who was born in Sept of 1888, were John W. (born Feb 1883 in Ohio) and Lulu M. (born Oct 1885 in Ohio.Franklin, wife, and children are all in the 1900 Washington twp, Hardin, Ohio census (ancestry.com has transcribed them as Guman). They are on page 3B, Dwelling 65, Family 68.They say they have been married 19 years (1881?) and have had just the 3 children.
Franklin is with his parents, John and Catherine (Miller) Garman in the 1860, 1870 & 1880 Madison, Hancock, Ohio censuses.HIs father John was born 30 Aug 1829 in Pa and died 21 May 1893 in Ohio. His mother Catherine was born 18 Mar 1834 in Ohio and died 10 Dec 1913 in Ohio.
Franklin's grandfather was John Garman Sr., born 1806 in Pa. His wife was Elizabeth, also born abt 1806 in Pa.They are in the 1840 - 1880 Madison, Hancock censuses. They removed from Pennsylvania to Ohio about 1834 as they had a son Daniel born 1833 in Pa and a son Henry born 1835 in Ohio.Living with them in the 1850 census, is John Sr's mother (Franklin's great-grandmother).Her name is Barbary (common for Barbara), a widow, born abt 1776 in Pennsylvania. In the 1880 census, John Sr. and wife are each 74 years of age.Living with them (as in 1870), is an Isaac Garman, born Pa 19 Oct 1827 and died 8 Oct 1911 in Hancock county, Ohio.In both censuses, he is listed as a widower, but in the 1880 census, he is listed as a step-son of John Sr's.Confusing.
Anyway, hope this helps.I am not researching this family, although I do research Garmans in Pa.
