Hi Amy;I'm still plugging away at locating my various garmans, but i think i found yours too!Elmer Garman was a son of Austin Garman and Ann Elizabeth Krise.Austin is in the 1860 Bellefonte census on page 298 as a carriage-maker living with the David Bollinger family. He shows as age 18 in 1860.He married Anna Elizabeth in 1862.She was a daughter of Jonathan and Lydia Krise of Spring Township (in the 1880 census for Spring Twp, a grandchild, William Garman, a son of Austin's is staying at his grandmother Lydia's).A brother to Elmer Garman was George Benjamin Garman who was born in 1862 and died in 1927.He married Georganna Elizabeth Fasig (1868-1922) in 1888.I think Austin Garman was a son of Michael Garman and Margaret Lovell.Michael Garman shows up in the Lamar Twp, Centre Census of 1830, then in the Lamar Twp, Clinton County Census of 1840 and 1850 (lamar twp became part of Clinton County in 1839).In the 1850 census (which is image 28 on Ancestry.com), Michael (age 46) and Margaret(47) have the following children: William (20), Foster(18), Mary(16), Rebecca(14), Matthew(12 and died later in 1850), Osburn(9) - i think this must be Austin and the census-taker mis-heard), Melchi(7).
Hope this gives you a few new leads,
Sue
