Hi Eileen and Larry. My name is Bill Garlough and I am a descendant of Johann Heinrich Gerlach from Germany. Johann arrived in the US at philadelphia. He arrived on October 17, 1749 on the ship Fane. Fane sailed from Rotterdam Prussia (now Germany but not in 1749) via Cowes England. The Fane's only time to cross to the atlantic to the US was this crossing as the ship hit an iceburg and sank going back. He married a a Swiss woman and they had two boys named Adam Garlough sometimes used Gerlough and John Henry Garlough. Johann setteled in the Washington County Maryland area. In 1783 when he was 55 he enlisted in the Revolutionary War effort as well as his son John Henry. In 1807 The entire Garlough Family moved from Washington County Maryland to Greene County Ohio near Springfield ( later split off to form Clarke County in 1818. There is A Garlough family cemetary in Pitchin Township, Clarke County Ohio. Johann is the first person buried there in 1810. I can trace my paternal father and grandfathers in the cemetary. Johann Heinrich Gerlach born in Prussia 1728 to 1810 Garlough on the tombstone).
TA lot of descendents of this Garlough line have moved away from the Family homestead. Our research of all other Garlough's start in the mid 1800's. We know Adam Garlough son of Johann is not buried in the Cemetary and he moved away from Clarke county and we do not his whereabouts.

Illinois. My Great Grandfather Carleton Durward was a Dean of Mathematics a Wheaton Collage in Chicago. There is a a Garlough house residence hall at Wheaton named after him.

Nevada
Nebraska
Minnesota, in St. Paul there is a Elementary School named after a Garlough.
We have heard about a Garlough-Gerlough-Garlock tie and we believe it might have come through the Adam Garlough desendents, son of Johann from Prussia.
