joyce I have seen your name alot in my search for information on the garis family name. I don't know alot but I have been researching the garis family name and this is what I've come up with;
there are many origins of the name garis mine is from the german name gaar add an "is"
it means son of gaar hence garis. my brother had someone research this when he was in the army in germany. the name garris I am told is english, garrisi is italian, and de garis is french and belgian.
I am searching for the father of frank garis he was my g grandfather born in souderton Pa. in1866 he married Ida Detwieller in 1890 and they had seven children one of them was my grandfather elmer garis. I hope that this information helps you. if you can help with my search i'd appreciate it.
