Not sure if I can be of any help. The spelling of the name is quite varied within close relations, I have ggaunts/uncles who spell it Garriss, Garris, Garis. My father was James Davis Hill Garriss, his was Edward Alston Garriss, his was James Hill Garris, who had a sister named Lucy A. Garriss. Tracing my ancestry, Amos & Ann Garris came to this country (Amos died in 1684).Working back from me it would be:James David Hill, Edward Alston, James Hill, James Alfred, Micajah, Joseph, John, Amos, Amos.My grandfather had a brother named Willard, and I seem to recall a Lucy somewhere around the same generation.I'll ask my brothers what they can recall.
