Mr. Terry - My family immigrated into the US from Canada. My great-great grandfather, Dennis A. Gardephe, settled in the Glens Falls, N.Y. area. My father always told me that our name had been changed; that the french spelling was Gariepy, but I never found any proof of that until recently when going through some family papers. My grandfather retired from the railroad on 4/16/1938; his retirement papers were made out Simon Ignace Gariepy. He had always gone by Gardephe. I recently found that my great-great grandfather filed for his naturalization papers in Warren County, N.Y. on 4/18/1849.
