7. Art emus, Son of Joshua (6) and Abigail (Rawson) Garfield
Art emus, Son of Joshua and Abigail (Rawson) Garfield, were born Sept 30, 1779 in Warwick, Mass. We have had great difficulty researching his life but believe he married first about 1809, Judith Babcock of Royalston, Mass. They moved to Concord, Vermont where Judith died after giving birth to five children. When Artemus came to Concord he bought 100 acres of land for the sum of $300, it was located in the 7th range lot #11, and it shows this on the old leather map of Concord.
Artemus married secondly in Lyndon, Vermont, May 8, 1825, Martha Gilman, born Feb 21, 1789 in Sandwich, N.H., Daughter of Samuel and Martha (Kinsman) Gilman. They had three children and moved to Sutton, Vt. sometime before 1852. Areas died Nov. 6, 1870 and Martha died April 8, 1872 in Sutton, VT. They are buried in the Lyndon, Center, and Vt cemetery.

He also lived in St.Johnsbury, and ran a boarding house on Tremont St.

Capt. Arthur J. Lived in Springfield, Mass. 1920to 1938 he was a fireman, he served in two services during WW I, Merchant Marine and US. Navy. And at the time his funeral was one of the largest ever in Springfield. He had a son Arthur James, who lives in Oxnard, Ca. 2144 Kingsbride Way.93035-3730. He has two older brothers.
